6:00 - 7:00pm
1 round sphere
2 machine guns in the hands of clowns
1 cubicle of wood, wall, and glass
oh yeah - 4 ibuprofen and an ankle wrap
Playing Racquetball with someone your own age is much different than playing with a 7 and 11 yr old. At 6:15, I thought we were probably ready to go, but like other exercising, you get a second wind and you play thru, more so when you are winning than loosing.
At approximately 6:55 I was engaged in a longer volley of the night, and was forced into the right wall, backhanding one back to front wall. There was a lot of acrobatic insanity going on and just before I hit the wall, my ankle twisted and I went down. It wasn't like "oh I've twisted my ankle, I need to sit down for a minute" it was more like I fell down and then came to the awareness that I had twisted my ankle. I wasn't close to crying but the pain lasted pretty bad for about 5 minutes. In an effort to ease the pain, my friend told me that I had gained the point. With only 2 points left in the game, I finally got up and finished it. It turns out I lost both games but it was a respectable loss.
I'm sure the full pain of the game and the ankle won't hit for another day or two, but right now I can't wait til next Thursday to play again. It was a lot of fun. I think I may have found out why I can't stick to a weight loss program. I don't like cardio. It sucks. Racquetball is fun, and I have no doubt, I burned more calories in 1 hour, than 1 weeks worth of time pining away like a gerbil in a wheel doing cardio. Plus, I didn't go to loose weight, I went to have fun.
Sure I'm in some pain, but it's much better than feeling like a walking tub of crisco, which has been the recent scenario.
If I can keep from injuring myself too bad, this just might work.
